AYSO Region 1672 - Sparta, MI

Welcome Parents

Welcome to AYSO Region 1672 based in Sparta, MI!

We are so honored you and your family have chosen to participate in the AYSO program. We know there's many ways to spend a Saturday, and kicking it together at the soccer field (no pun intended) isn't a bad option!

It's good to be prepared and know what to expect for your soccer player's involvement in the program. This page is dedicated to parents and guardians of AYSO players who want to better understand the program, get answers to commonly asked questions, and find other ways to be involved.

AYSO PARENT PLEDGE

AYSO encourages good sportsmanship through dynamic programs and clear expectations. “Good Sportsmanship” isn't just a set of words, it's one of the Six Philosophies listed in the AYSO National Bylaws.

AYSO's Parent Pledge spells out the expectations in place for parents and guardians when it comes to exhibiting and promoting good sportsmanship. We ask that you:

  • Attend and participate in team parent meetings as requested.
  • Partner with volunteers to keep your child and all children safe.
  • Be on time or early when dropping off or picking up your child for training or a game.
  • Ensure your child is supported and encouraged by family or loved ones at games.
  • Encourage your child to have fun and keep sport in its proper perspective.
  • Define winning for your child as doing his/her very best and appreciate Development over Winning.
  • Endeavor to understand the Laws (rules) of soccer and support the efforts of referees.
  • Honor the game and show respect for all involved including coaches, players, opponents, spectators and referees.
  • Applaud and encourage players from both teams and do not yell out instructions as this causes confusion to the players and ultimately, hinders development.
  • Refrain from making negative comments about the game, coaches, referees or players, especially from the sidelines.

How can I help?

My child's team has a coach. What else can I do to help?

Absolutely! Here are some additional ways you can get involved:

Become a Team Parent:  Every team utilizes the help of a team parent for coordinating snack schedules and/or streamlining communications.

Bring Game Day Snacks:  Sign up to bring game day snacks or beverages for the team (we hear the kids really appreciate this one!).

Help with Fields:  For ways to help with field maintenance, email [email protected]. Alternatively, you can help keep our fields clean by picking up trash; it's common to find bottle caps, wrappers, and other small goods after a long day of games. If you happen to see litter, we'd love the help in cleaning up and ensuring it gets thrown away in one of the many trash bins around the fields.

Support via Sponsorship:  Whether you own a business or know one that might be interested, we would love the opportunity to be considered for sponsorship. Or, if sponsorship isn't the right fit, we do have materials we go through on a weekly or sometimes seasonal basis that we would gladly accept donations for.
