Understanding AYSO

The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is structured into a hierarchical system that manages youth soccer programs. The fundamental building block is the Region (the local community league), which is grouped into Areas, which then roll up into larger regional Sections.

Region: The local, community-level league run by a volunteer board. Regions handle player registration, teams, local field permits, and uniform distribution.
Area: A collection of neighboring Regions grouped together (e.g., surrounding a metro area). Area Directors mentor the local Regions, organize area-wide playoffs, and ensure programs run consistently.
Section: Large geographic territories that supervise Areas, coordinating broader events, coaching clinics, and tournaments
